Reliable and cost-effective solutions for joint waterproofing.

WaterBar Rigid CI

The WaterBar Rigid CI is designed to save time in the construction program.

To induce controllable cracks in expanses of concrete

The WaterBar Rigid CI is designed to save time in the construction program. With the WaterBar Rigid CI, concrete pours are not limited to an aspect ratio or a physical size. This joint induces a controlled waterproofed crack in mass concrete pours.

Description

Concrete can be waterproofed on mass using highly effective additives such as Xypex Admix. However, if the concrete pour is too large, and concrete shrinkage takes place, a crack will develop at some point / points along the length. Depending on the length / size / aspect ratio this crack could easily be outside the design calculations. With the WaterBar Rigid CI this crack can now be:

  • placed at a known point,
  • aesthetically pleasing,
  • controlled,
  • waterproofed.

The WaterBar Rigid CI works in synergy with the structure and becomes an integral element of the waterproofing solution by determining:

  • where the crack will occur,
  • the direction of the crack,
  • that it is straight and aesthetically pleasing.

Placed between the rebar layers, the crack inducing element of the WaterBar Rigid CI must be at least 50 % of the thickness of the concrete.

Unlike the HydroBar Active waterbars, where you have a choice of Evo or Original, the Static Waterbar product range is a system. As such, most projects will commonly use at least 2 of the products in the Static waterbar range.

Concrete can be waterproofed on mass using highly effective additives such as Xypex Admix. However, at the static joint where concrete shrinkage may take place, a static waterbar is a simple solution to seal the gap. It works in synergy with the structure and becomes an integral element of the waterproofing solution.

The combination of a physical barrier with secondary protection is a proven option in Central Europe. This technology is now spreading further afield.

The elements become a permanent part of the structure, creating a physical barrier to water. They are not impacted by wet / dry cycles, providing a permanent, static protection.

The cost of Static waterbars is often more expensive than Active waterbars when compared metre for metre. However, consideration needs to be given to the time saved on site, especially when considering the WaterBar Rigid CJ and WaterBar Rigid CI products detailed below. These products allow the exclusion of formwork, as well as greater lengths of concrete poured in one go. This saves time and process in the construction program.

Slab

Place the WaterBar Rigid CI on the lower reinforced steel mat of rebar, with the bitumen / bentonite treated element facing the positive side of pressure at spacings as required.

Securely fix to the upper and lower steel reinforcement mat using tie / binding wire or other appropriate methods.

Slide the next WaterBar Rigid CI to interlock with the first and press the bitumen or bentonite on to the upper horizontal steel face to create a bond.

Continue until the edge of the pre-determined pour.

Place a “crack inducing fillet” at the finished surface if required.

Pour concrete.

Wall

Place the WaterBar Rigid CI between the 2 mats of reinforcement with the bitumen or bentonite facing the positive side of the water pressure.

Securely fix the vertical element to the rebar using tie / binding wire or other appropriate methods.

Slide the next WaterBar Rigid CI to interlock with the first and press the bitumen or bentonite on to the vertical horizontal steel face to create a bond.

Continue until the end of the pre-determined pour.

Place a “crack inducing fillet” at the finished surface if required.

Pour concrete.

Please note:

  1. The WaterBar Rigid CI must connect to the WaterBar Rigid CJ & WaterBar Rigid KJ, depending on the position of the induced crack.
  2. All waterproofing jointing elements (regardless of whether they are active, static or a combination) must connect to create a complete sealed system.

FAQ’s

1Why use a waterbar?

Waterproof concrete creates a waterproof barrier within the mass of the concrete; however, this is not likely to seal the day / construction joints, therefore, something needs to be done at this intersection.

2Why use a Static waterbar?
A static waterbar's primary role is to place a tortuous path in the line of the water ingress. However, Manorteq Static Waterbars are more technical than just placing an obstacle in the way. Depending on the specification of the Manorteq Static Waterbar, it will either adhere to the concrete, swell against the concrete, or create permanent formwork for the concrete, saving time and cost of other trades.
3Why use a Static waterbar rather than a hydrophilic (Active) one?
A Static waterbar has many additional benefits other than just stopping water infiltration by placing an obstacle in the way (please see product pages). From a waterproofing perspective, it also binds to the concrete (bitumen) or swells against the concrete to seal (bentonite) - it must be noted the bentonite layer is significantly thinner than the HydroBar Original, therefore exerts less force.
4Can I just place a WaterBar Rigid on the reinforced steel mat?

No. All waterbar products need to be fixed securely to stop them moving or becoming dislodged when concrete is placed.

5Can I place a WaterBar Rigid anywhere?

Yes, but you must use the correct element in the correct place. Please refer to product pages.

6Will the products interfere with the Xypex waterproofing system?
No. All Manorteq ancillary products are developed and selected to integrate seamlessly with the Xypex waterproofing system, as well as others.
7Can I fix WaterBar Rigid to metal sheet piles?
No, you would have to use a HydroBar and link it together to create a complete sealed system.
8If I use the Static System, do I have to only use this on the project?
No. It integrates seamlessly with the HydroBar Active system.
