Reliable and cost-effective solutions for joint waterproofing.

WaterBar Rigid CJ

The WaterBar Rigid CJ is an evolution of the traditional physical barrier system, with an additional layer of either bitumen or bentonite.

For day / construction joints in vertical and horizontal expanses of concrete

The WaterBar Rigid CJ is an evolution of the traditional physical barrier system, with an additional layer of either bitumen or bentonite.

The WaterBar Rigid CJ has a dual purpose. First and foremost, it is a waterbar to stop the migration of water through the joint, however, it also provides formwork between pours.

Description

By installing the WaterBar Rigid CJ, with the solid element of the product installed parallel to the line of the face of the concrete, a barrier is created on the joint creating a complex, tortuous path for the water to navigate past.

However, if the concrete shrinks (depending on the version of WaterBar Rigid CJ chosen), the water will still be unable to track through because of the waterbar binding to the concrete with a bituminous layer (WaterBar Rigid CJ-B), or because of a swelling bentonite layer (WaterBar Rigid CJ-C) stopping the flow of the water.

The WaterBar Rigid CJ integrates mechanically and seamlessly with the WaterBar Rigid KJ to ensure a complete waterproofing solution that is robust and permanent.

Unlike the HydroBar Active waterbars, where you have a choice of Evo or Original, the Static Waterbar product range is a system. As such, most projects will commonly use at least 2 of the products in the Static waterbar range.

Concrete can be waterproofed on mass using highly effective additives such as Xypex Admix. However, at the static joint where concrete shrinkage may take place, a static waterbar is a simple solution to seal the gap. It works in synergy with the structure and becomes an integral element of the waterproofing solution.

The combination of a physical barrier with secondary protection is a proven option in Central Europe. This technology is now spreading further afield.

The elements become a permanent part of the structure, creating a physical barrier to water. They are not impacted by wet / dry cycles, providing a permanent, static protection.

The cost of Static waterbars is often more expensive than Active waterbars when compared metre for metre. However, consideration needs to be given to the time saved on site, especially when considering the WaterBar Rigid CJ and WaterBar Rigid CI products detailed below. These products allow the exclusion of formwork, as well as greater lengths of concrete poured in one go. This saves time and process in the construction program.

Slabs

Ensure the continuous spacers (ideally made of concrete) are placed below the lower reinforced steel mat to stop concrete migrating beyond the joint line. If these are not available, please use block spacers (again ideally concrete) and a wooden batten between to stop the concrete migrating beyond the joint line.

Place the WaterBar Rigid CJ on the lower reinforced steel mat, with the bitumen or bentonite on the bottom side of the horizontal plane.

Securely fix the wire vertical element to the upper and lower reinforced steel mats using tie / binding wire or other appropriate methods.

Slide the next WaterBar Rigid CJ to interlock with the first and press the bitumen or bentonite on to the upper horizontal steel face to create a bond.

Continue until the edge of the pre-determined pour.

If the vertical wire element is greater than 300 mm then mechanical fixing (or possibly mechanical support) maybe required to withhold the weight of the fresh concrete.

Place a wooden batten directly on top of the upper layer of steel reinforcement mat in line with WaterBar Rigid CJ vertical wire, to withhold the concrete above the steel to again stop the concrete migrating beyond the joint line.

Pour concrete.

Walls

Note:

Place the WaterBar Rigid CJ between the 2 mats of reinforcement with the bitumen or bentonite facing the positive side of the water pressure.

Place wooden battens either side of the WaterBar Rigid CJ and in line the vertical wire, directly on the steel reinforcement mat.

Securely fix the wire vertical element to the rebar using tie / binding wire or other appropriate method.

Slide the next WaterBar Rigid CJ to interlock with the first and press the bitumen or bentonite on to the vertical steel face to create a bond.

Continue until the end of the pre-determined pour.

If the vertical wire element is greater than 300 mm then mechanical fixing (or possibly mechanical support) maybe required to withhold the weight of the fresh concrete.

Pour concrete.

  1. The WaterBar Rigid CJ must connect to any WaterBar Rigid KJ.
  2. All waterproofing jointing elements (regardless of whether they are active, static or a combination) must connect to create a complete sealed system.

FAQ’s

1Why use a waterbar?

Waterproof concrete creates a waterproof barrier within the mass of the concrete; however, this is not likely to seal the day / construction joints, therefore, something needs to be done at this intersection.

2Why use a Static waterbar?
A static waterbar's primary role is to place a tortuous path in the line of the water ingress. However, Manorteq Static Waterbars are more technical than just placing an obstacle in the way. Depending on the specification of the Manorteq Static Waterbar, it will either adhere to the concrete, swell against the concrete, or create permanent formwork for the concrete, saving time and cost of other trades.
3Why use a Static waterbar rather than a hydrophilic (Active) one?
A Static waterbar has many additional benefits other than just stopping water infiltration by placing an obstacle in the way (please see product pages). From a waterproofing perspective, it also binds to the concrete (bitumen) or swells against the concrete to seal (bentonite) - it must be noted the bentonite layer is significantly thinner than the HydroBar Original, therefore exerts less force.
4Can I just place a WaterBar Rigid on the reinforced steel mat?

No. All waterbar products need to be fixed securely to stop them moving or becoming dislodged when concrete is placed.

5Can I place a WaterBar Rigid anywhere?

Yes, but you must use the correct element in the correct place. Please refer to product pages.

6Will the products interfere with the Xypex waterproofing system?
No. All Manorteq ancillary products are developed and selected to integrate seamlessly with the Xypex waterproofing system, as well as others.
7Can I fix WaterBar Rigid to metal sheet piles?
No, you would have to use a HydroBar and link it together to create a complete sealed system.
8If I use the Static System, do I have to only use this on the project?
No. It integrates seamlessly with the HydroBar Active system.
