AquaRend waterproof mortar for use as render or screed.

Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine

Designed specifically for fine-finishing of repaired concrete, and concrete that has minor surface deterioration, or as a Quick Return To Service coating for a Xypex Coating or repair.

Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine is a single-component, dry, fine grain mortar mix designed specifically for fine-finishing of repaired concrete, and concrete that has minor surface deterioration.

It is also used to provide a super fine finish over the Manorteq AquaRend Range. Due to the fineness of the application, the product is not waterproof to EN 12390-8 but has the Xypex Technology Inside to ensure compatibility with the Manorteq AquaRend and Xypex applications.

Description

Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine is for applications where a super fine finish layer is required (2 mm – 4 mm). Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine, when used as either part of the Manorteq AquaRend system or as a layer over a Xypex repair or coating, it creates a barrier layer on the surface of a structure which is impermeable to liquids including but not limited to water, oil-based products and organic solvents.

If required, paints or other coatings can be directly applied on to the Manorteq AquaRend repaired area. Any coating applied must be breathable. For further guidance please contact your local Manorteq representative.

Note: Manorteq Ltd makes no representations or warranties regarding the compatibility of Manorteq products with other surface applied materials. It is the responsibility of the installer of these surface-applied materials to take whatever measures are necessary, including trials and testing under project conditions, to determine the suitability and compatibility of the coating being placed upon the Manorteq product.

Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine, is classified as an R2 mortar with a low modulus of elasticity, in accordance with EN 1504-3.

Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine, when used as a stand-alone product, does not have sufficient thickness to be used in conjunction with Manorteq reinforcement. If an application requires the use of a Manorteq AquaRend reinforcement and also requires a Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine Finish then Manorteq AquaRend Thix Regular or Fine must be used first at sufficient thicknesses to embed the reinforcement correctly.

Waterproofing Capability

Manorteq AquaRend S Fine - waterproofing capability

* Whilst a perfect application at these thicknesses will provide a waterproof layer, there is, however, a higher probability of imperfections in the application which would compromise the integrity of the waterproofing.

** At these thicknesses, Manorteq products will be waterproof when applied in strict accordance with the installation procedures laid out in the Technical Data Sheets.

Installation

Substrate

  1. Remove all damaged, loose, weather-worn concrete. Any dust and loose particles shall be removed from the substrate before application. The concrete surface must not be contaminated by substances which can negatively affect the adhesion of the mortar to the substrate (e.g. oil or other products).
  2. Before the application of Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine, ensure the substrate surface is suitable to receive the mortar and create a suitable cohesive bond.
  3. Before the application of Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine, the substrate must be wetted, ideally to a ‘saturated surface dry’ condition. Rinsing with pressurised clean water before application is recommended to remove any dust from the application surface.

Preparation

  1. Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine is prepared by mixing with clean water. It is necessary to thoroughly mix with enough speed/energy to comprehensively combine the material, but care should be taken not to incorporate air into the mix. Speed/energy should be reduced as material becomes more fluid.
  2. Recommended mixing ratio is 5.00 – 5.75 litres* per 1 No. (25 kg) bag.
  3. Initially mix the the dry mix into the minimum water for approximately several minutes, until it becomes fluid. Mix at slow speeds, too much speed will add unwanted air into the mix. If this is not the appropriate consistency, add water in small increments, mix again and assess. Add up to the maximum allowable, ensuring to complete the full mixing, resting and re-mixing process.
  4. Working time of the product is typically 50 – 60 minutes at 20 °C.
  5. The temperature of ambient air shall not be below, nor expect to be, in the following 24 hours, +3°C or be, or expect to be, above +35 °C.

Never apply to frozen substrates.

* Consideration should always be given to the amount of water used. As a waterproof mortar there is always a balance between the level required. Less water will give greater waterproofing , but more water is typically required for application purposes.

Application

  1. Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine can be applied manually. Layers must not exceed 4 mm thickness.
  2. Proper adhesion of the material to the substrate in the application stages is of fundamental importance.
  3. After initial set of the last layer, a dry polyurethane finishing tool is used for the smoothing of the surface.
  4. If being used as a cap coat over a coating of Xypex Concentrate slurry, for best bond, application should be made at approximately 3 hours or after 28 days.

Curing

Attention should be taken to avoid direct exposure to the sun, wind and other factors which accelerate evaporation and have a detrimental effect. Proper curing must be undertaken to prevent early drying, and the subsequent issues associated. Manorteq Curing Agent can be used to aid this process. Repaired surfaces must be properly cured immediately after completion.

FAQ’s

1What’s the difference between Manorteq AquaRend mortars and ‘normal’ mortars?

All Manorteq AquaRend mortars are waterproof up to 50 meters hydrostatic head due to the Xypex Technology Inside.

2Why use AquaRend Thix Regular and where can it be used?

Manorteq AquaRend Thix Regular is a thixotropic render (holds its own weight) and as such is the most versatile version as it can be applied to vertical or overhead surfaces. It can also be used as a screed.

3Why use AquaRend Flow Regular and where can it be used?

Manorteq AquaRend Flow Regular is essentially a flowable version of the AquaRend Thix Regular. The consistency of AquaRend Flow Regular ensures it is self-levelling and should therefore only be used for flat horizontal surfaces.

4What’s the difference between AquaRend Thix Fine and AquaRend S-Fine?

The difference is two-fold.
1) the thickness, S-Fine can be applied as a much thinner layer than Fine.
2) the surface finish is finer/smoother with S-Fine. Please be aware, even though S-Fine contains the unique crystalline technology, it is not waterproof on its own. To be waterproof at this very fine thickness, it would have to be used in conjunction with Xypex Concentrate.

5What are the best AquaRend products to apply overhead?

Manorteq AquaRend Thix Regular, Thix Fine and AquaRend S-Fine. All can be applied overhead however each product offers a different finish subject to the project requirements.

6What classification are the AquaRend mortars?

All Manorteq AquaRend renders are classified as an R3 mortar under the EN 1504-3 protocol.

7Can I apply paints/coatings onto Manorteq AquaRend mortars?

Yes, as long as the paint/coating is breathable.

8Can AquaRend mortars be used in chemical environments?

Yes, normally. Please refer to the data sheet or contact your Manorteq Technical Representative.

9What does "Quick Return To Service" mean?

Quick Return to Service (QRtS) is used to emphasise the significant reduction waiting time for Xypex surface applied and/or repair materials curing time in a water retaining structure before putting back into service.

Where a structure, such as a potable water tank, reservoir, or wastewater facility, has been repaired with Xypex Patch’n Plug and/or Concentrate as a slurry or dry-pack, AquaRend S-Fine can be used to reduce the curing time of the Xypex products to typically 72 hours.

10Can Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine be applied directly over Xypex coatings or repair mortars?

Yes. Manorteq AquaRend S-Fine is specifically designed as a compatible finishing layer for the Manorteq AquaRend range and Xypex repair and waterproofing systems. It provides a super-fine, smooth finish (2–4 mm) over repaired concrete or Xypex coatings. While it contains Xypex Technology Inside for compatibility, its primary purpose is to improve the surface finish rather than provide standalone waterproofing.
