Project Description

The Úhlavsky sewage collector is one of the backbones of the sewerage network in Pilsen. The individual sections were built gradually between 1993 and 2006. In 2016, local faults including water leaks into the sewer, concrete degradation and concrete corrosion due to sulphate water were repaired and rehabilitated. The total area of rehabilitation was approximately 100 m2 of concrete.

Once the reinforcement was exposed and cleaned of corrosive residues, a mortar with an accelerated set time was created by mixing Xypex Patch’n Plug and Xypex Modified and then applied. The Xypex technology created the formation of a crystalline matrix within the mortar itself which provided both waterproofing and sulphate protection.

Approximately 350 m of the ceiling of the sewer was treated with a cement-clay grouting mixture that also contained Xypex technology. The interaction of the swelling clay components, the cement component and the crystalline waterproofing additive ensured the sewer bedding was strengthened and sealed perfectly at the application site.

Rehabilitation of the working joints consisted of cutting out a groove, coating with Xypex Concentrate in a slurry consistency and filling with Xypex Concentrate as dry-pac. Active water leaks were stopped with Xypex Patch’n Plug.

Sealing of voided penetrations was completed using Xypex Patch’n Plug. This was applied to the bottom of the cut-out hole and the remaining volume of the hole was filled with Manorteq AquaRend Thix waterproofing mortar.
